KaithalLuv Kush Tirath

Luv-Kush Tirath is stated to be the place where Maharshi Balmiki taught complete knowledge of Ramayana to the twin sons of Lord Rama and Mata Sita i.e. Luv and Kush. Legend states that Maharshi Balmiki took a vow of complete silence thereafter. Presently, temples of Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman and Luv-Kush exist at the spot in Village Mundri along with ghats and kunds.

Next to the ghats, there exists a historical ‘Shiv Temple’. At the centre of the temple, there are marble idols of ‘Lord Ganesha’, ’Mata Parvati’ and ‘Nandi’. Inside the temple, there are pictures of ‘Lord Hanuman’ carrying ‘Lord Rama’ and ‘Lord Lakshman’ on his shoulders. There are pictures of Raslila of ‘Lord Krishna’ with ‘gopies’.

In the courtyard of the temple, another room has been constructed with idols of ‘Lord Hanuman’, ’Mata Durga’, ‘Mata Sita’, ‘Luv-Kush’ and also ‘Maharshi Balmiki’ made of marble. Also, there is a historical peeple tree in the courtyard.

Entire Kund and Temple complex had turned into ruins for centuries. With dedication and determination of people and present day Kaithal MLA & Cabinet Minister, Randeep Singh Surjewala, this tirath stands restored to its pristine glory. Kund (Sarovar) has been reconstructed by stone-pitching and making special provision for canal water through a 2 KM long dedicated water channel. Ghats and Sarovar have been reconstructed alongwith canopies for the pilgrims. Red Jodhpur stone has been laid in the entire Temple complex as also around the Sarovar besides making provision of walk-ways, lighting, sound system and public toilets.

Total cost incurred on restoration of this Holy Tirtah is Rs.238.87 lakh.
